Why This Isn't A Ladder-And-A-Box-Of-Lights Job
Most string lights fail the same way: a bulb goes out mid-season, the ladder comes out in the rain to fix it, and by January the whole tangle goes back in a bin for eleven months. We run this as a service rather than a one-time purchase — Flat Mate owns the lights, so a failure during the season is our problem to fix, not yours.
Installation runs from October 1, hung with drill-less clips on fascia, eaves and gutters rather than fasteners into your roofline. The timer is set to the night you choose. Everything comes down in January, and we test, repair and store it until it's time to put it back up next year.

Five Questions Worth Asking
What to confirm before choosing a holiday lighting contractor, along with how Flat Mate approaches each one.
Do you own the lights, or am I buying them?
If you own the string, a failed bulb or a dead run is your problem and your ladder. Ask who owns and maintains the lights before you sign anything.
Our answerWe do. We own, maintain, store and replace the lights — a failure during the season is ours to fix.
Will you drill into my roofline?
Ask how the lights are attached. Fasteners into fascia, eaves or shingles leave holes that need repair later.
Our answerDrill-less clips on fascia, eaves and gutters. Where a fastener is genuinely needed, we tell you first and fill the hole at takedown.
Are you insured for roof and ladder access?
Installation happens on your roofline. Ask for current WorkSafeBC standing and liability coverage rather than a verbal yes.
Our answerFully insured, with WorkSafeBC coverage maintained and documentation available on request.
What happens if a bulb fails mid-season?
Ask what the response actually is: a call centre queue, or someone who shows up.
Our answerA 48-hour service guarantee — tell us and we're there, at no charge, as often as it takes for the season.
What's the actual term, and how do I get out of it?
Ask whether this is a one-off purchase or a recurring agreement, and what cancelling looks like.
Our answerA one-season agreement that renews automatically, cancel any time with 30 days' notice, and your price is locked for three seasons either way.
Holiday Lighting FAQs
How much does holiday lighting cost?
Packages start from $995 for the first season, with most homes landing in the mid-range package. Pricing depends on your roofline and home size — see exact package pricing and get an instant estimate at lights.flatmateclean.com.
Who owns the lights?
We do. We maintain them, store them between seasons, and replace anything that fails.
Will installing lights damage my roof?
No drilling. We hang lights with drill-less clips on your fascia, eaves and gutters. In the rare case a fastener is needed, we tell you first and fill the hole at takedown. We're fully insured.
Do I have to sign a long-term contract?
No. The agreement covers one season and renews automatically. You can cancel any time with 30 days' notice, and your price is locked for three seasons either way.
What if a bulb goes out during the season?
Tell us. We're there within 48 hours at no charge, as often as it takes.
What if I sell my house?
Cancel and we remove everything at no charge, or transfer the agreement to the new owner.
